A coach, not a generic chatbot
Mysty is your personal AI coach. Every answer is grounded in your context: your course content (retrieved on the fly), how far you've progressed, the open questions you wrote in your own journal, your engagement patterns, and durable mentor memory — stable facts Mysty has learned about your goals and weak spots across sessions. The style is warm, Socratic and concrete: real production systems, real costs, what breaks when it's done badly.
Good openers: "What should I focus on today, given where I am?", "Quiz me on what I learned this week.", "What did I get wrong recently that I should revisit?"
Bring your own key (BYOK)
Mysty runs on a key chain, tried in order with automatic failover:
1. Your personal key — free to get from NVIDIA NIM, Groq, Gemini, OpenRouter and others; add it in Settings → Mysty AI keys
2. Your org's shared key — if your organization has enabled sharing
3. A platform key — where your tenant has that entitlement
The coach page detects whether any usable key exists and, if not, shows a banner walking you to Settings. Replies stream in, and each one shows which provider and key answered, so failover is never a mystery. Key material itself never reaches your browser in the standard mode.
Device-only mode
Prefer that your key never touch Miatz servers at all? Device-only mode stores the key in your browser: Miatz supplies the grounding context, and your browser calls the provider directly. One caveat — some providers block browser-side calls (CORS). If that happens, switch to a server-vault key, or use a CORS-friendly provider like OpenRouter or Google AI Studio.

Why does Mysty ask me for an API key?
Mysty is BYOK — bring your own key. It runs on your personal key, your org's shared key if your org enables sharing, or a platform key where your tenant is entitled. If none of those exist, the chat prompts you to add a free key in Settings → Mysty AI keys.
How is Mysty different from the AI Tutor?
The AI Tutor answers course questions on the platform's AI with subject-expert personas. Mysty is your personal coach on your own keys: grounded in your progress, journal and engagement, with durable memory about you across sessions.
What does Mysty actually know about me?
