Saying it out loud is a different test

Typing an answer lets you edit your way to competence; explaining out loud shows what you actually understand. Audio submission boxes appear across Miatz — in teach-backs, daily reflections, coding challenges (explain your approach) and capstone pitches — wherever speaking is the better proof.

How a submission flows

1. Record in the browser (up to 5 minutes) or upload an audio file.

2. The clip goes to private storage and enters the pipeline: uploaded → transcribing → grading → done, with the current stage shown live.

3. When it's done you can play it back, expand the transcript, and — where the activity has a rubric — see your points and feedback immediately.

Transcription runs on an audio-capable (Whisper) key — Groq or OpenAI, configured in Mysty AI settings. If no such key exists, processing fails with a clear key error; add one or ask your admin.

On the native iOS/Android app: upload only

One honest limitation: inside the native app, recording is upload-only. Microphone capture is unreliable in the native WebView (the OS permission handoff often blocks it), so the Record button doesn't appear there. Two easy workarounds:

Record with any recorder app on your phone (Voice Memos, Recorder), then use Upload audio.
Or open Miatz in your browser or installed PWA, where in-browser recording works normally.

Mentor review

Your submissions aren't just machine-graded. Mentors and admins in your organization have a review queue where they can play your audio, read the transcript and see the grade — your delivery is part of your record, the same as written work. Playback links are access-checked, so only you and same-org staff can listen.

Frequently asked

Why can't I record inside the iOS/Android app?

Microphone capture is unreliable inside the native app's WebView, so recording there is upload-only. Record with any recorder app (e.g. Voice Memos) and upload the file — or open Miatz in your browser or the installed PWA, where in-browser recording works.

What happens to my recording after I stop?

It uploads to private storage, then runs through the pipeline: uploaded → transcribing → grading → done. You get the transcript, and — where the activity has a rubric — a grade and feedback.

My submission failed at transcribing — what's wrong?

Transcription needs an audio-capable (Whisper) AI key — a Groq or OpenAI key configured in Mysty AI settings. If none is set up, processing fails with a key error; add one (or ask your admin) and try again.

Who can listen to my submissions?
